Hey Melissa! It seems as though you already exhibit the first skill which is passion. You asking this question shows that you have passion and the drive to make a good dish. Another skill I would say you should have is the willingness to learn. With any skill, there is always room to learn and grow, especially in the culinary arts field. Lastly, I would say that you should exhibit creativity. Do not be afraid to try new things or create new dishes. This is what will make you become stronger with your craft. Use great ingredients - fresh, from a farmer's market if possible. Also as a beginning, use measuring tools for ingredients when following a recipe. Measuring spoons, cups, thermometer etc.

Hi. As i have been cooking myself since last 5-6 years I can answer you. Like any other skill cooking also improves with practice. When you cook something if you get it right then no worries but if something goes wrong then take a note once you start cooking slowly you will understand how ingredients react with other what should be the cooking time. It all comes with practice and some guidance if you are doing it on your own. The other option would be to join a cooking class where they will teach you everything
