This is a great question that people are sometimes afraid to ask, but shouldn't be! In my experience, the best way to increase one's salary is by proving your worth. It's not about what you've done, it's about what you can do now, and in the future, better than anyone else. Make yourself indispensable. Learn a skill that your team needs and doesn't have. Get certifications that prove your knowledge and adds value.

I've included a few links below from reputable sources with some additional perspectives. Hope these help!

Both! You can work somewhere for a year or more and earn periodic raises based on years of experience alone. However, you can also study for certifications in your spare time that will help you argue for a higher salary in your current position.

You can be as slow or as aggressive as you like. The aggressive route would be to job-hop somewhat frequently, earn certifications and update your resume constantly, and leverage your certifications/knowledge for raises.
