Rebecca’s Answer

Firstly, thank you for your question. Different people may find different part they like most. In fact, there are many different kinds of banks, e.g. Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Retailing Banking, etc. There are different roles within each function as well.
For example, in investment banking, some bankers may specialize in IPO, trading desk, etc. For IPO banker, they may think that they can arrange a an IPO with overwhelming subscriptions and the share is listed. They may view this as the best in the career. Alternatively, for traders, if they can make an transaction with good profit, they would view it as their success.
So, it is really different on the sector and people's own view. There is no definite answer on this.
Hope I can answer your question!

Vijay’s Answer

The obvious answer is the pay is very good but there is much more. I have been an investment banker for 18 years and I have enjoyed my work and have been generally happy with the compensation. I used to work as an engineer at Ford Motor Company before getting my MBA and coming to Wall Street, so I've worked in corporate America. My colleagues in investment banking are smarter, harder working and more successful than my peers were at Ford or most employees I see across corporate America. Working in the investment banking environment, where talented people are continually striving for excellence, is what I would say is the best part of being an investment banker. The pay is pretty good too.

Jonathan’s Answer

In banking, you have the ability to actually help people in many ways. First, you assist people and companies achieve their goals for growth, expansion, and managing risk. Lending money gives the ability for companies and individuals to use capital to start or expand a business, to buy a home or a car, etc. Part of your job as a banker is to assess and manage the risks associated with structuring a loan so it is paid back over time, or connect lenders with borrowers so that they both can find a win-win situation. It can be very rewarding.

Jerome’s Answer

Hi Nakhia :

The best part about being a banker is being able to stay in the center of the flow of capital, working with and analyzing companies that shape the world around us. This is also an industry that challenges you to learn something new every single day as there are so many unknown forces and variables at play, from geopolitical events to new technology that impacts the trajectory of the economy.

Hope this is helpful!
