Depending on how you want to pursue education the answers will vary. With some schools they offer a 2 years associates degree thst focuses on electronic technology. Some schools can also go beyond that. However, in my research on many different websites, they state that you can become a electrician by going to a vocational school where they will be able to teach you solely about being an electrician or you can get a certificate (or both if you really want to get both).

Afterwards, you will need to find an apprenticeship where there will be one or more people teaching you on the job. There you can get real life experience and tips from professionals. In some states, the apprenticeship is required and can take multiple years to complete. Then after you have finished the education and apprenticeship, you have to get your license required for being an electrician.

I just want to reiterate that these suggestions above can change depending on where you live and how you would like to pursue the job. If you want my opinion, try communicating with a professional electrician yourself to ask if they have any advice for somebody starting out. Having a pro talking to you directly can definitely help clear any misconceptions or other details that you might have in mind.
