Join a design college to major in interior design and do minor in Business/Entrepreneurship. That way you will gain both knowledge and one day start your own interior design business. That's exactly my daughter is doing.
Thank you so much!

Sierra’s Answer
Hi Hailie,
I run my own Interior Design business. I have a B.B.A. in Design Management and a M.S. in Interior Design. You could easily become an Interior Designer with just a Bachelor degree though. I recommend taking a few business related courses alongside your ID degree, like branding, marketing, and financial management- this is especially important because you'll need to be good at balancing your client's budget as well as your business's. It's also a good idea to do some internships while in school, perhaps there's a local designer who runs a business similarly to what you desire and they can mentor you. Running your own ID business is really fun, and education is important, however there's many things best learned from practical firsthand experience - like how to attract the right clients, manage multiple projects at once, draft proposals, etc.
Wishing you all the best,
Sierra
