I think wear something that makes you confident. As Fred said, it very much depends on a number of factors. However, you have to be comfortable in your own skin and dressing a way that makes you feel that way is essential!

Hi! You should wear whatever you feel the most comfortable and confident wearing. It also depends on what type of pictures you are trying to take. For example, if you are taking a photo for LinkedIn, you would want to wear professional clothes for your profile picture.

The answer to this is really "it depends". What kind of pictures are you taking, who/what are you taking them of, and who are you working for?
If you are taking wedding photos at an actual wedding, you're going to want to look clean, neat, and professional. A coat and tie for men would almost always be appropriate, and a dress for a woman.
If you are a nature photographer out in the Amazon jungle, those would be terrible choices. And what you'd wear there would be different than a nature photographer in the Artic photographing polar bears.
If you work for a large company (like one that does school photographs), they may have a formal dress code you have to follow.

As I started to build my career, I would always be advised with "dress for the position you want, not the position you are in"
