The biggest conflict I see as a designer is when client 'wants' directly conflict with known design principles. The challenge is to decipher what the client 'needs' and balance 'wants' with function. There are many jokes and memes about "making the logo bigger" and ambiguous feedback such as "make it pop". If you approach this with patience and understand what the client is truly asking for, these become less challenging. Learning the best ways to communicate is vital for understanding how to approach a project.
Every designer will face unique challenges based on their skills and industry. Most will face the challenge of which field to go into. There are so many design fields to choose from (UI/UX, product design, packaging design, motion design... to name a few). Some designers prefer to have some knowledge of several fields, while others prefer to hone in on a single craft.

Though I'm not a graphic artist, I do a lot of graphics in my role as an instructional designer. The biggest advice is to learn your Adobe products: Photoshop, Illustrator, and even After Effects. Learn to draw by hand too so you can scan and bring it into these programs. There are schools that focus on teaching these or you can go to college and take some classes. I took three semesters of Electronic Media which simply focused on Adobe products.
If you want to learn on your own, Adobe has a lot of free courses and offers some good discounts for the purchase of these products.
Graphic design is a really fun career! I have a friend that designs book covers and she loves it!

The biggest challenge that I see graphic designers go through is understanding the needs of their clients. It is really important to ask the right questions to better understand the needs of the clients and empathizing with your clients. I also think that ensuring that you are kept update on the latest tools that graphic designers are using the field. Try to become an expert in at least three tools (Figma, Invision, Adobe, etc).
