Ruby’s Answer

Hello, I am not a medial assistant but a nurse. I observe each role and admire each person who performs those duties, MSA is the start of the building block of the clinic. They are the once who initially sees the patient. ? This is the bets time to get o know the person and create a relationship of trust. The MSA is the extension of the nurse, he/she is involved in the patient care and should be invested in know about the patient.
You are the boots of the place, you have many roles to do, and the ability to be the bridge between professionals. You are a jack of all trades.

Suzanne’s Answer

Your question caught my eye, Alan, because I worked as a medical assistant for a couple years between college and medical school. There were lots of interesting aspects to this job. I found I could learn a lot about health care by keeping my eyes and ears open and reading a lot about the diagnoses and treatments the patients received. I also learned a lot about how I would want to treat and relate to my future patients once I was a doctor. I learned to talk to and listen carefully to all kind of people about all kinds of issues they were concerned about. I learned how a health care team works and the importance of everyone doing a good job in their roles. All in all, this was a fascinating job and a great introduction to the world of health care for me.

Hi, Alan!

The other two answers are spot on! I just wanted to add that as a CMA, you can work basically anywhere. I found job openings in a general surgery clinic, urology, family medicine.... CMAs are everywhere. If there is a specialty in medicine that you are interested in specifically, you can probably work there as a CMA. Then if you get bored, you can either transfer departments if it's in a big hospital or simply find a different place to work. :) good luck!
