Effect is Really important to the video. The effect include music, transition between the video, the color, the graphic and so on.
I make the documentary before. I have to interview a lot of people. And when I edit the part, I have to cut some necessary part. And fix the audio is the hard part. So, you have to use some effect to cover the bad audio.
Background music is a important to make your video more excellent. That can make your video more interesting rather than boring.
Transition between the video is also good effect to make your video more interesting.
Changing video color can make your video vivid.
Adding graphic and word can better explain what you are doing and what happen right now when you without the voice over.
I hope these experience can help you. Good Luck.

Hey there!
Great question about video editing! Video editing is one part of my job as a documentation specialist for a large business. I create videos as a solution to support my coworkers to do their jobs better. Then, as a result of coworkers applying the skills I taught them in the videos, the business is able to achieve their goals faster. Some types of videos I create are "how-to", informational, excitement videos, and even GIFs! When I think about applying a treatment to the video (special effects, words on the screen, transitions, background music, etc), I need to think about three questions: 1) who is my audience 2) what style of video am I creating and 3) how can I best share this message with the audience.
Adding in transitions is one important part of the video editing process. I need to make sure that my video clips have a smooth flow from one to another so that the target audience is not distracted from the overall message of the video. For example, as cool as it may be, but using a spiral in and spiral out transition might be too distracting and take away from the video message. So, my go-to transition is a gradual fade in and fade out for a smooth transition.
Adding background music or even voice over (when a person speaks in the video) is another option to include in your video editing. When selecting background music, you want to think again about the three main questions above and make sure that your music choice is not going to be too distracting or too loud for your audience. You can also edit the audio by applying an audio transition of fading in and out, cropping the audio to only play a certain part, or even adjusting the volume levels. When selecting music too, you want to make sure that you are choosing music with the proper permissions and giving credit to the artist. For example, you most likely won't be able to choose one of your favorite songs on the radio without also paying a royalty free and receiving the music license which says the artist gave you permission and it is okay to use their song in the video. I encourage you to look into royalty free music to browse your background music selections.
I hope these video editing tips have helped you today. Happy video creating and editing!
