Hello: There is some great advice given already on this topic! Although no one starts at the top, there is so much to be learned from the journey. Maybe you know exactly how you want your career to go, and that's great if you do! If not, that's ok too. Many students, and adults, aren't exactly sure what they want to do for a career. Part of building experience is figuring out what things you like, maybe some you don't, and most importantly what you are good at and what brings you happiness. No matter what, your ambition will take you a long way!

Hi Eric - aiming from the top on day 1 - great ambition. If you work for yourself - then right away you're the boss!
You should think about what career / job you want to do - what's important to you and why? If you want to be the boss - you have to learn how to do this. Learn by copying others - understanding their mistakes and learning how to recover from your mistakes. Being in the top position in a big firm might not be as exciting as it sounds - enjoy the journey to get there and learn along the way.

Hi Eric.
Your ambition is awesome! It's great to want to be successful and aspire to the top of your chosen field, but a little bit of patience and frankly experience, is really important. When you enter a company or organization, you won't just start at the top. You need to develop experience and demonstrate the value that you bring to the company. That takes time - but depending on the value you deliver and the way you lead (as well as follow) will help determine how quickly you can advance within the organization. Also, it's important to remember that the higher you go the farther you have to fall. So you want to build a very solid foundation and grow into your success to avoid that fall.
Obviously, if you work for yourself and own your company, you are the top boss. Even that requires a lot of work, and experience, and may not be the best place to start. It's important to be prepared to put in the work, make the effort, and plan to grow in your career. You can learn a lot and build a stronger footing for your future success with a solid plan to grow and progress in your career over time.
