It definitely depends on which state you work in and if it's a state or private company. I would say starting out for a hydrogeologist could range from $40,000 - $69,000. However, the average for California is $90,000 and can go up to $160,000 the more experienced you are. There is a CHG examination that you can take to build your resume! (Certifies Hydrogeologist Examination)

It depends on who you work for. Large companies pay more but have less flexible work hours. Small companies companies pay less but are very flexible with hours and you can sometimes get overtime. The small consulting companies starting pay is around $50,000, large companies the starting pay is around $60-70,000. Large mining companies pay the best, usually starting around $65-70,000. That’s the base salary not including bonuses.
There is potential to get up to $120,000 as a senior or principle hydrogeologist if you can get the professional geologist license (P.G.)
