Hi Sharon,
Being in fine arts does not necessarily mean you need a degree since you can definitely do that without it. If you have the skills and have had experiences in things such as photoshop or illustrator for example, you could still go into the field. Though if you want to pursue it for educational purpose as in teaching other students then yes you would need either a bachelor or master as it is depending on how far you are trying to go to. All colleges and even community colleges offer art courses so I hope things go well for you!

Hi Sharon, this is a great question! A fine artist doesn't technically need to have a college degree to practice art, but if you wanted to teach, you would need a degree (a bachelor's or master's depending on the level you'd like to teach). If you're considering going to school for art, you could try auditing a class at a college to see what you think! Community colleges often have art departments and offer some intro classes. The benefit of going to college for art is that you're spending a lot of focused time learning technical and artistic thinking skills from professors who have many years of experience and can coach you on how to develop your art. You also get a lot of exposure to other artists, art history, and art forms that can help shape your own art form. Simply having a four year degree can also open up a lot of job opportunities both in and outside of the art field. This is the reason I decided to go to college for Art (with a second major in Communication Studies) and I'm really glad that I did!
