There are a lot of 4-year programs that specialize in game design/programming.

I second Julia's answer about Digipen, I know several people who graduated from Digipen and have gotten great jobs. Because Digipen is located in Redmond, WA where there is a huge tech sector, there is availability to get contract work through companies like Volt after graduating to build up your career and get good solid experience.
