Rhea’s Answer
Show that you have experience with math and money management on your résumé, and be able to speak to that in your interview. You can talk about how you managed the money for a church/school event.

Jake’s Answer
Along with math skills as Rhea pointed out, people skills are a must! Cashiers interact with people throughout their shift. Most places have you apply online these days, but if it is a local store you can go in and ask for an application. Good luck!

Brandon’s Answer
Apply online to a local store or go in person to a store that has a for hiring sign. For some businesses they may not post a sign outside or online, but would have a job potentially open if you would go in and ask. For skills that you will need to become a cashier, you have to have:
Basic Math skills to calculate the amount of money you get and give back in change.
The ability to talk to other people in a respectful manner.
Being able to remain calm in tense situations.
Treating everybody equally.

Jordan’s Answer
First, I would say walk into a store and talk to a store manager where your family buys things.
Ask that person if there are openings available and what skills would be needed.
If the manager says they are hiring cashiers ask for a interview then take the steps in the answers above to prepare.
If that manager says they are not hiring, ask what they are hiring for and think about taking that job first before a cashier and work your way up.
Sometimes just getting a job in general to start out in a area you enjoy is the first step.
Good luck!
