Melody’s Answer

Teaching is like any job. It is an experience with its positives and negatives. I enjoy teaching because I get to share my experience with others as well as learn at the same time. I equally have strong belief that I was made to teach. I share in the joy of watching another learn and grow. Easy -- never. It calls on you to resource, network, collaborate and continually seek opportunities to grow yourself and help others do the same, often when they may not see you as "helpful" or "necessary". Teaching requires and should encompass "all" of you. No, not wear yourself out. However, most teachers express a chance to use more of their skills in creative ways. If you are interested in teaching, know that there is not just one area "a school/university" that uses and has teachers.

Hi Hope,

Teaching can be really fun. It is exciting to teach people something that did not know before. You also get to meet a lot of people who are different from you, so you are also learning as well. If I were to give you some advice if you are considering being a teacher I would recommend two things: 1) Think about how you would like to be a teacher (what age you want to teach or what subject you want to teach) and 2) To be a good teacher, you need to feel comfortable communicating with people. That means you should have good writing skills as well as public speaking skills. That can even be acting by the way.

Hi Hope!

Teaching is a lot of fun! I really enjoy getting to work with my students everyday and watching them grow and learn! It is very rewarding, but it is also a lot of hard work. You have to plan out your lessons, work with other teachers, talk to families, keep up with grades, and many, many other duties. You will also learn a lot. We have training called professional development that helps us learn new things. We might learn about new programs or changes to curriculum. These meetings help us to create good lessons to teach. If you are interested in becoming a teacher, I would suggest maybe volunteering at a daycare or an after school program or even babysitting. You will get to work with kids and see if it’s something you can see yourself doing as a job! Talk to your teachers and see what they like most about teaching! Good luck!

Sincerely,

Brittany

Patricia’s Answer

What is good about teaching? Teaching is great! Teaching is the opportunity to help guide children of all ages to be the best they can be. It is a chance to educate and mold children from all backgrounds into good citizens, It is the opportunity to let students know about the world they live in and how it works. Children of all ages need good teachers -- teachers who have their best interests at heart -- teachers who are well educated in their field and who have standards for themselves and for their students. Education is a very creative and skilled field. It is not for the faint of heart because it requires patience, perseverance, focus and extra hours. However, it can be a very rewarding career and very motivating when you see how much you help your students, their families and their community.
