Hi Cailen,
What an interesting field to pursue. I'd suggest you to take into account 2 steps here.
1) As for the course, there are marketing courses offered as majors in Business Adminstration degree or in some countries BS in Marketing as well. But, considering how technology is taking over, I'd suggest you rather take "Digital Marketing" degree.
2) To establish your foundation in sports marketing;
A) try to expand your knowledge base about sports by staying up to date with what's happening in that industry, history, documentaries, critically analyze sports marketing campaigns that any company or brand launches "what would I have done differently", have a journal on it.
B) Take up internships ( even on a smaller scale) in sports industry during college to get better understanding.
C) Attend / participate in college / outside events that provide likewise opportunities, or launch events, and connect with people there. Building connections is of crucial importance in marketing.
I hope it helps. Cheers!

I'd focus on all aspects of marketing first and foremost. Your knowledge of the sports industry will then translate on top of that. As far as it relates to sports business, not all schools will have this available. Take those courses if available but that's not always there for you. But i'd look into what is available online too. Read all the sports industry news too. Sports Business Daily. Dig into the news aspect of it.
