Look into what certifications you need. Also there is more to operations and maintenance then the technical/tactical side. Make sure you have a basic understanding of accounting principles.

Get as many certifications that you can. Always try to learn something new on the job. Always take stock of your skills and work on the ones that you feel weak in. Solving problems is very rewarding but the preventive maintenance can get mundane sometimes, but remember that it’s just part of a well maintained system. Improvement and enhancement projects are also a great way to learn the equipment at your facility.
