In my opinion some of the greatest challenges today in IT are as follows:

- New technolgies - need to keep up with the emerging technology changes so that you are using the latest and greatest tech
- Cyber security - ensuring you safe guard all of you data from any type of data breaches.
- Mobile & Social Media - mobile and social media has opened up the landscape for greater flexibility from working anywhere and at the time same could expose the your business to more risk.
- Big data - need to create, obtain and analyze bigger amounts of data is continually to become more important.
- Asset & Data Management - managing and protecting the constant moving parts of data across the enterprise is vital to keeping the business moving.

There is a great response already to this question. I'll just add that I faced a challenge determining what I wanted to do next. Opportunities presented themselves to help me with this; however, I often thought about what skills I needed to get to achieve success in my current role and what skills were necessary to get the next role. Keep a learning mindset! Take advantage of the resources that you have to continue growing!
