Hi Armine!

You asked a very interesting and important question. Missing is some important information. such as your intended major and your intended college which you will attend next year. This would be very helpful to know; however, without that, here is some helpful information.

Here is a helpful story. During my daughter's senior year in high school, the highlight was to be a 3 month internship. Everyone submitted their request, except one girl. This girl wanted an internship with an EMS unit, so she contacted the local EMS unit and arranged with that unit and her school to create her own internship. She ended up being the one who got maximum benefit and enjoyment from the experience. My daughter's and many of the others experiences fell way short of expectations.

Let me know if and how this helps. Best of luck. Keep me posted. I would like to follow your progress.

Hi Armine,

Great question. Internships are a phenomenal way to gain experience, understand what you may or may not be interested, build your network, and differentiate yourself from other candidates. As mentioned in previous posts, it is important to network and be prepared with a strong resume and ensuring you are prepared to answer potential interview questions. I would also recommend trying to narrow down the search to a few different companies and/or hospitals. It will help you manage your time and get more focused. Lastly, I would recommend leveraging resources available at school / in your community to help build networks (e.g. school career center, local colleges, non-profits like INROADS, etc.). In my personal experience, these institutions and organizations are very willing and able to help you identify something that may be of interest and ensure you are prepared for the screening process. As reference, I have linked a few resources below:

I wish you the best in your search...keep me posted.

Although it is difficult to provide finer details of internships you can apply without knowing your plans for future career, you can definitely apply for various internships that can help your progression during college study. You should start internships in college when you feel ready to juggle another responsibility on your calendar. Please make sure that you have scheduled enough buffer time for your college studies before you can join an internship. Please inquire your student counselor for details of the internship and how many additional hours you may need to commit.

If you interested in going in to government service after your college graduation, you can explore the opportunities provided by NSA student programs. NSA Student Programs applications are generally accepted in the spring and fall.
