To learn how to make a robot, you need to build up some technical knowledge:
1. Mechanical designing, including Mechanics of Materials, Mechanism
2. Electrical designing, including Electronic Circuitry, Signals and System, Programing

The best way to have quick look is to study the removed controlled car.
By tearing it down, it'll inspire your curioisty.

Hi, I will try to resumen the answers as far as I can , you need:

-To design it physically
-Know a lot ot maths, control maths, algebra, calculus
-Be expert en digital an electronics systems
-Know simulations software
-Know Computed desing and manufacturing assisting softwares


if you like robots and want to work making them, Mechatronic Engineering will be the right career for you , you can start by knowing how they work and to make little ones, today it exists a lot of courses about robotics from scratch , you can google them and find one

In addition to the awesome answers provided I share that there are any number of inexpensive robot kits that you can purchase that integrates the mechanics of putting a robot together and programming software to control the robot. Both of these parts are highly useful skill sets that individuals can learn and build on.

As I write my response to you, we are in the month of November...not that far from the holiday season. Maybe you can put in a good word for a robotic kit? :)
