Hi Suzanne- check out this article: https://www.allnursingschools.com/certified-nursing-assistant/

It provides a lot of insight to the CNA role and gives some great information on positives and challenges of the job. From my experience when I went to Nursing school the CNA job involved a lot of manual labor and grunt work. However its a great way to get your foot in the door and see first hand healthcare and if that is something you want to continue to pursue further.

I have worked as a CNA in the past, as well as have worked in healthcare administration. So my advice is to love what you do. Being a CNA is not the most glamorous job in the world, but can be one of the most rewarding. If you are looking for advice on becoming certified, I would say that there are quite a few facilities who will actually certify you as you work, which is great because you would not have to pay for it. If that is not available to you, there are places who will let you work for them as an NA until you are certified.

If you are wondering what it's like to be a CNA, then as I mentioned, it can be a very tough job, but so much fun. If you look at all the residents/patients as individuals and learn to get to know them, the "hard" part of the work is really not that bad, and you find yourself helping a friend. The hilarious and disgusting stories are very memorable and you will always have a funny story to tell. But when you look at this job as a "calling" and not a job, then you really do see how wonderful of a career it is!
