You can achieve certifications in A+, Microsoft Cert, and Networking at trade schools. There are many places that offer these at low cost or no cost to trainees . This can be achieved in 6 months - 1 year depending on your schedule and program.

Great to see some people interested in fixing stuff!
As a computer technician, it might be expected you'd be able to identify, troubleshoot and resolve computer problems (software and/or hardware). The basic skills required for this can be achieved with certifications like Comptia A+ (I personally see this as 1st step) as it covers the basics for personal computer's hardware.
Moving forward, you'd need to identify expertise areas you'd be looking for (client/enterprise level systems, networking, servers, storages, cloud, applications, etc) and identify certifications that may cover the basic needs.
Comptia, Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA), Linux (LPI) certification are the ones I've seen around the most and the ones I'd recomment.
How long would it take for you to be "ready"? Depending on your background, it may take from 6 months to up to 2 years to achieve at least 2 certifications and feel ready.
If by any chances you are looking for more specific areas feedback, please let us know.
