Generally, most programs requires 4 years of undergraduate schooling with an additional 3 years of physical therapy school. However, this can vary for accelerated programs that are typically a total of 6 years.

Different programs may take different amounts of time. Go to <apta.org> for a list of accredited programs all over the country. Then, one way to know how many years your education will take is to identify the schools you hope to attend and call the admissions office and ask. You can also look up each program online. In general, it will be a four year Bachelor of Science degree followed by a three year program leading to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
It is good you are planning ahead. It is a strenuous and expensive project. When you start planning early you are more likely to find different kinds of financial aid to help you.
Good luck.

Hi Destiny, it's great to know that you have a desire to be physical therapist. We will be needing more of them in the future since the baby boomers will be needing a lot of care and people are living longer. Physical therapy can take 7 years of college courses to do. You will need 4 years of undergraduate degree and then 3 years of DPT (Doctoral Degree of PT). If you want, you can get into a PTA (PT assistant) program at a local community college and go further later on. This is up to you, it's a lot of schooling but I think it's worth it for your future. I hope this helps.

Hi Destiny,
To embark on the journey of becoming a physical therapist, your first step is to earn a Bachelor's degree. After that, you'll need to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, which usually takes about three years. This journey includes not only the DPT program but also certain prerequisite courses during your undergraduate studies. But it doesn't stop there. To practice as a physical therapist, you'll need to get licensed in your state. This often involves passing a national exam and meeting other specific criteria.
Stay blessed!
