Hi Katrina! It has been a while since I graduated from college but I still remember the first steps I took on campus. To me my first day was a blur- my first class was in the afternoon and I felt so weird being in class when usually my day at high school ended around that time. However, don't be scared, yes like all good and worthwhile things, there is some stress, but it's really first of all getting use to the environment. It will feel different initially but after your a couple of weeks and especially by the end of the first semester, you will feel comfortable as you adjust. Also, our stress levels and how we manage them is in our own hands; college has many resources, such as advising, tutoring/writing center, the gym, wellness centers, fun activities and events to keep you grounded, have fun, and manage your stress! We also at CareerVillage are here to help as well, there are many questions that will come as you step further into your education and potential career, so please feel free to ask but right now take it one step at a time. As an entering freshmen you should have your financial aid in order, to do that you should apply through FAFSA.ed.gov, make sure to have a good planner, be familiar with your classes and syllabus, and have a map nearby so you can know where your classes are as you get use to the campus.
With time you will meet great people and be on an amazing path-- honestly I loved college, I loved independently being able to study, meeting different people, taking my classes, and partaking in fun clubs and activities at times. For me my stress was managed mostly by staying organized, whether it was through my classes, my to-do work or just in general- this is where-like I said before-a planner helps. I would also recommend to have your supplies ready before class begins especially textbooks. As a note I think renting books is much more simple as well, as they will save you money and you get to return them so you don't have to worry about having many books left over and having difficulty selling them. I usually recommend to try out Chegg and Amazon which are very helpful! Lastly, be careful with your expenses; while having a part time job can definitely help in paying for necessities and for fun things like going out to dinner with friends, debt can stack up if not careful. Be mindful of what you spend and set a budget- the financial aid office also has helpful resources as this a big step for many individuals so be sure to check them out!
I truly hope this helps! Please feel free to ask more questions about college and I will do my best to help you!
Best of luck future undergrad!

Hi Katrina,
College is definitely stressful, especially depending on your major. STEM majors can be pretty rough sometimes. However, one thing about college is that you have more freedom and independence, and it's definitely a different experience than high school. Some tips I would recommend are to use a planner to help with time management and not procrastinate. Also, remember to take time for yourself and take care of your body. It can be easy to neglect your health and sleep in college. If you're struggling with classes, take advantage of all the resources that are offered, such as TA office hours or even if your school has free tutoring.
Good luck!

I’ve never heard of a student who wasn’t stressed in college. it is definitely a stressful academic life once you hit college, but fear not! You are not alone! It really comes down to time management and how you handle the stress. college is a period of time in one’s life where yes you’re stressed, but at the same time, you make awesome memories and it’s the other people you surround yourself with in college that help you get through that stress. The fun you have in college outweighs the stress, so if I were you, I’d look forward to the bright side! Stay optimistic, it’ll definitely bring you the success and life management you desire.
