Fred’s Answer

In Missouri, where I live, a worker's permit is only required if you are under 16. No employer is required to hire you, but it is possible. You may need your parent's permission to apply for one, though. And most places will require you to submit an application to be considered.

Now...there are all kinds of caveats. A small business may not have an application process. If your parents or other relatives are in such a position, they may be able to hire you.

And of course, there are always things like starting your own business. You could start a car wash, a landscaping, or something other business on your own, and be your own boss.

Thank you comment icon Fred's answer is great for finding your first job. Keep in mind that your first job is likely not going to be your "career," but will provide you relevant experience for when you do go to that step. Your career is usually a long term position you will hold, usually, full-time. Tiffany Stone

Sandra (SANDY)’s Answer

Most jobs require at least an application. This is to ensure your qualifications and skill sets are aligned with the job you are wanting to be hired for. Applications are for more than just interviewing as they also provide details needed to get you initially set up as an employee with that company for tax purposes. Most states have a age limit for labor rules and guidelines as well.
