Dear Katlyn- What a great question! but....what a hard question too! I think deciding what you want to do as a career can be a difficult process for people. Deciding whether you think you will like it before you start is certainly a good step- I think nursing is a great career, but I realize it is not a great fit for everyone. Universally, the nurses I meet are caring people who want to make a difference in people's lives. You need to be willing to put your heart into the job- but it helps if you also like science. The best nurses are the ones who are able to quickly decide if a patient has a change in their medical condition and respond quickly. You need to have good "critical thinking" which you learn in school as you decide the best action for a patient who is relying on your judgment. I recommend you call some hospitals in your area and ask them if they have a "shadow program". This offers students a chance to see what the work is like before you make the decision to go to school. best of luck to you Katlyn!!
