Gloria’s Answer

Hi Katlyn,

Teaching can be a very rewarding experience. It can also be hard. It will depend on what you would want to teach. I used to be a full time corporate trainer. I loved it. I loved learning about the business that I was in and helping others learn how to do their jobs better. But sometimes people don't want to learn. You have to be very flexible. You may need to repeat yourself in several different ways to be understood. I am not certain that I would have been very good in K-12 education settings. I would not have liked to teach English for 20 years or anything like that. However, I do love that moment when I know that someone has learned a skill that they will have for the rest of their lives. It is very rewarding to be able to help people.

I am not sure how you know if you want to be a teacher. I would say try it and see what happens. You can start small. Try teaching someone a skill that you have that the other person doesn't have. Maybe teach them a dance move or how to bake a cake.

Evangeline’s Answer

Hi Katlyn,

Teaching is not for every one. But it is very rewarding profession. You will need the passion to teach and be with kids (if you're aiming at teaching K-12) pretty much all day long. Be prepared to spend hours preparing your lesson plan, meeting with parents and checking test exams. You will need to be encouraging and patient to your students.

You will be successful in any field as long as you are willing to put in the effort and love what you do. Good luck!

Thank you comment icon Hi Evangeline: This is very good advice. I like your comment about "teaching is not for everyone; you will need the passion to teach" etc. etc. That is so very true. Sheila Jordan
