Hi Hope,
I think this depends on what approach you want. A brief way to put it; it's hard, hot and time consuming. But if it brings you joy and you know how to orginize your time you should go for it.
Being a baker can be creative work when developing recipes, "strict" since a small change on a recipe can affect the whole outcome, "heavy" requires arm excercise or sometimes even lifting, time consuming/planning you need to get the times right.
For me I didn't do any formal study, I bake on my free time, it started as a hobby and then I started selling to my co-workers, I opened an instagram page and sold to general public. I only sell on weekends when I'm free, only the ammount I know I'm capable to bake. I love flavors and experimenting so I always make new recipes and share them once they are ready. I personally don't know all recipes by heart so I will write them and reach to my notebook once in a while.
I know for sure that studying baking is a lot stricter than what I do, but since I do it as a relaxation time I'm not ready for it.
Define why do you like baking
Define what would you like to do with it
Get different process baking books
See/investigate formal study options
Reach out to people through mutual contacts or people you know who are bakers

My in-laws owned a bakery for years, it's a tough and HOT job working in front of ovens all day long but it is rewarding creating breads & pastries from scratch for other people to enjoy.
