I believe you can be an Electrician's apprentice/assistant with a HS diploma, but will need a certification to become a journeyman/independent electrician. Your local community college should have more information on technical training electrician work would fall under.

The minimum level of education required to become an electrician is a high school diploma or equivalency degree, like the General Education Diploma (GED).
