How much does an engineer make a year?

I heard that an engineer can make up to 125k a year. Is that true? What types of engineers would qualify for that? How do I know if I could do that? #engineering

Different types of engineers make different salaries. For example, aerospace engineers tend to make more than civil engineers. For more information you can explore https://www.bls.gov/ooh/ You'll be able to find different salary and career information.

Saeid’s Answer

Hello Jalen,

I personally think the most important factor in determining the salary for an engineer is the location of the workplace. For example if you work in San Francisco as a software engineer with a bachelor degree you should expect to get paid around 110-120 k. That is obviously a lot of money compared to a software engineer who might make 75k in Dallas. According to CNN money : http://money.cnn.com/calculator/pf/cost-of-living/ , 120 k in SF is equal to 66k in Dallas. So even though 120k might seem a lot of money, the engineer working in Texas has a higher purchasing power.

Following up on this issue, you should know for example that software engineers generally work in highly populated urban centers while civil engineers don't. So if the average salary numbers for software engineers is higher compared to civil engineers, that doesn't necessarily mean that software engineers have better compensation. In my personal opinion that notion is very misleading.
