Hi Malcolm,

I would say that you should focus on what you want to do with the software and let that guide you to the software that you want to use. The best software is often the one that lets you do what you want to do, no matter the cost. And I would say that you want to use different software depending on the product. This will allow you to be very flexible. In my business, the best product is actually a combination of elements created in different software programs. For example, when I create videos, I am often using images that need photo editing software, an audio tool for the voice overs, and a video software program that merges video with those other components into a great product. Begin with what works for you and then go from there. You are going to want to consider what are the best practices of what you want to do. I have studied photography techniques to make sure that the pictures that I use or the framing of my videos are the best that they can be. I still have a lot to learn a lot about how to make bad audio work, especially since sometimes it is all that I have. Making that bad audio better is not just about the software that I use but knowing what techniques to apply to the audio.

Rather than try to find the best editing software right out the gate, I'd look for software that allows you to learn best practices when it comes to editing. For instance, you can use a program like OpenShot to practice how to make proper transitions, control audio levels, and be able to tell a coherent story with gameplay footage. If you don't have those fundamentals, it doesn't matter what fancy things your software can do. Once you've mastered the basics and feel confident with that, you can search for a paid program like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere to add more effects. Plus, your experience with the free software will allow you to more quickly grasp more complex programs.

I also recommend checking out free video editing courses or tutorials on YouTube -- I often do that when I'm trying to learn how to create a specific effect.
Thank you comment icon ok thank you for the help will find a editing soft ware that i can practice on malcolm
Thank you comment icon This is awesome advice! Depending on the career choices you make, you'll come across a variety of editing tools throughout your career and they have similar concepts. Being adept at switching between technologies is also a skill with a lot of practical applications. Most of the folks I know who edit videos professionally in the technology industry use Adobe Premiere and Camtasia, but that can change over time. Allison Stilley (she / her)

Some common items that are used include Final Cut (for Apple Devices) and Adobe Premiere Pro. But like others said on here, it is important to not only know what the technology is but how you want to use and how it can be used to make genuine and original content that is truly yours. In addition to using these programs, I would recommend looking up tutorials and free online courses for how to get started in content creation.
Thank you comment icon thank you so much for recommending these software i will surely look into them malcolm

Start with something free, such as Apple iMovie, to get an idea of how to make edits, and get a flow for the actual editing workflow that you want to work with. After you've got some good editing work done, then work to post that and see how others react.

Getting other people's feedback, and making updates, is a key aspect to becoming a better editor, and people will watch more of your videos... regardless of what tool you use to create the video.
