Is it possible to put two partitions on a hard-drive and split the windows installation with a partition and use the other to store files?
I hear often that many schools and companies use a deep freeze and store their data on separate networks. So, I wonder if it would be easier to store and boot windows from a separate partition and use the other to store data. I wonder what issues this will cause, but I also wonder if this would be more efficient since one can just format the second partition if any malicious software arises. #networking #it-management #help-desk-support #help-desk-management #computer-memory #deep-freeze #windows

Yes, I do this myself, either with a different partition or different physical drive. It makes it easier to reinstall Windows or move your files to another computer if necessary. I think the newer versions of Windows have utilities to partition drives built in. Windows 10 also has Storage Spaces, which is an easy way to implement a RAID-like system, which I use for redundancy. The only inconvenience is some of the links in Windows 10 like My Documents, etc., will point to the system drive by default.

tight when resizing it could cause issues. I love to do it since you will separate your data from the system files so later on you will be able to do Factory Reset OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) on the Windows Partition without affecting your data. Also Keep in mind to have an antivirus updated because even if you have two partitions it belongs to the same hard drive it could get infected the systems files.

I did so in the past. On some older Windows versions. It also going to work on Win10. But this way is a kind of not modern thinking. I believe you are aware about cloud technologies already came in to our life. So I would recommend you to store any important files in such kind of cloud storage, like Google Drive, MS OneDrive, AmazonDrive, etc. Simply imagine what would you do if your whole disk would fail or laptop was stolen.
