What is it like working as an Automotive Mechanic
I am currently going through a Job Corps Center, to get my ASE certification as an automotive mechanic, and was wondering what the average day as a mechanic is like, along with anything to look out for along with some tips and tricks of the trade. #engineering

Hi Bryce,
Certification is a good way to make it official. Lots of hands on practice doing replacement of components is going to be needed as well. A lot of the average day is doing either maintenance on cars (Oil change, filters, brakes, fluids and other consumable parts.) In addition to that there is a lot of troubleshooting and triage abilities needed. As modern cars are getting more complex, there are different diagnostic tools and software available to help you. To me this is a very important skillset for a successful mechanic.
Modern cars have a lot of electronics and electrical systems. Learning about those would be a great area of experience that would set you apart.
best of luck in your journey!

The future appears to be electric, with internal combustion engines phasing out. It'll be good to acquire skills to about electric vehicles and hybrids, such as electric motor, regen, and battery while de-emphasizing specifics to ICE, such as exhaust system, transmission fluid, coolant, and engine oil.
