https://www.ferguson.com/content/trade-talk/business-tips/how-to-become-a-plumber and https://www.housecallpro.com/working-in-the-trades/plumbing-licensing/texas/ have insights on how to become a plumber in Texas.
The requirements may vary by state but you'll likely need a GED or High School diploma, A plumber needs a foundation in math (i.e., algebra and geometry), science (i.e., physics) and computers (i.e., computer-aided drafting). Get formal training by completing an apprenticeship program and/or training at a local trade school or college. Get licensed in your state.
The key to learning the job is the apprenticeship which can take several years and is basically on the job learning. You'll be working with a master plumber and some states have requirements for # of hours worked.

The vast majority of plumbers enter the profession through an apprenticeship program. These programs last four to five years and can be found through local trade schools, businesses and union chapters.
