Sophia’s Answer

First you need a bachelor's degree (4 years). then a master's degree (1 to 2 years) and then you go for a PhD. The length of time it takes to get a PhD varies based on the specialty you want. Study hard and you'll succeed.

Leslye’s Answer

Great answers already, as you can see total education years to get a PhD is variable depending on a lot of different things (location, university, specialty).
But in the end (and in my opinion) you pursue a PhD, based on your passion for a subject, you will invest many hours and hard work to obtain it. So you need to know that you really like what you are researching about and that you enjoy the journey regardless of the length.

If you look for your true passion, you won't regret a minute :D

Richard’s Answer

It always depends...

My path:
4 years to complete Bachelors Degree
I entered a Graduate program with the intent to only complete a Master of Science degree. After spending 1 year working towards the MS degree, I converted to a "Bachelor-to-PhD" track my university offered. It took another 4 years total to complete the PhD. So in total, 5 years spent in Graduate school and left with just a PhD (no MS degree received).

Benjamin’s Answer

It depends: My path was BS (4 years) , Masters (2 years), PhD (3 Years).

There are a lot of BS/MS combo degrees that are 5 years now. There are also a lot PhD programs that include a Masters in the package (6 to 7 years give or take)

If you really want to try to nail down a number, I'd say 4 for undergrad and anywhere from 4-8 on average for doctorate. So split the difference and say 10 years.
