Byron’s Answer
It's not difficult to get into content creation with how democratized online media building and editing has become (and will get greater), but it IS difficult to make a living from it simply because how many folks are in that business these days. That said, content creation is quite fulfilling for the artistic soul, and you'll most certainly find a lot of community from folks interested in the kinds of content you make.

It might take time in order to develop the brand that you are trying to do the content creation for, but it can depend on the person. If you take the time and research what is needed to have successful content, then it will guarnateed a higher chance of success. Something to remember is that for some people, they don't start off successful from the beginning (though some do). It will take perserverance and a passion in order to be successful in the end.

Content creation is one of the easiest field to get into, but one of the most difficult to truly master. We are all creating content all day, every day. Every tweet, Instagram post, TikTok video, etc. is contributing to wealth of global content available. As you know, most of this content is of low quality, and/or not well thought-out. Content creation as a career requires a few key skills:
1 - Understand and empathize your audience. What do they consider to be their problems, success factors, emotional needs? Understanding your audience sounds easy, but it requires you to put aside your own biases which is something most people find difficult.
2 - Understand the brand you are writing for. What is their authentic voice? How do they represent themselves in their space? By aligning with the brand you make all content that brand creates, including what you are specifically working on, work harder.
3 - Understand what success looks like. This is often overlooked, but essential to the process. For example, you may choose a different approach for a piece if success it a top Google ranking vs. success bing a high % of form fills.
4 - Have a point of view. Make sure that what you have to say is differentiated in some way. That is how you start to shift the perception of the person consuming the content.
If you have considered all 4 of these, you are well on your way to creating strong content that could create a measurable impact.

Hi Alexis, great question and here's the good news -- it's comparatively easy to get into content creation! Content is one of the hottest commodities in today's digital marketing age, and companies everywhere need help telling their stories. (In fact, it's one of LinkedIn's Top 10 growing careers in 2021.)
But like anything else, being successful takes experience, perseverance, and skill. Here's a little advice:
Study your craft. Keep up on social media marketing platforms and trends -- treating it as a profession, not a pastime. The digital landscape changes in nanoseconds, and keeping up (or even better, anticipating trends -- looking at you, Meta) is absolutely critical to your success now and down the road, wherever it may head. Read, read, and read some more, industry blogs, follow companies and experts you admire on social.
Learn to tell stories. The best content creators help tell the tale of the companies, products or people they're helping market, and that means becoming the best writer you can. Start a blog. Find your voice. Share on LinkedIn and Twitter. It's not too early to join the conversation.
Network. Follow the experts, ask for advice, be patient, and persistent. Content creation is ultimately about connection, and being successful in this or any other industry will be much easier the more connections you make.
