What level of education is required to be in the production of a movie

I want to know how long do I have to go to college to make a movie

Thank you comment icon Do you mean to be a "Producer" of a film, or just to be involved in film production in any way (for example as a member of the film crew but without any specific role). Jared Chung, Admin

You don't need to go to college in order to make a movie. However, film school will provide you with the chance to write and direct short films and have them shown to the public. You'll also get experience with the technical side of film-making (cameras, editing, etc.). Film school will also allow you to network with other aspiring filmmakers. That being said, film school is a large investment of time and money and there is no guarantee that your degree will help you on your quest to make movies. I have heard from some people that experience and connections hold a lot more weight than education in securing a job working with films.

I'd like you to consider this quote from Quentin Taratino:

“Trying to make a feature film yourself with no money is the best film school you can do,” Tarantino told students during a master class at the Cannes Film Festival. After dropping out of acting school, Tarantino honed his craft by paying obsessive attention to movies. Working at a video store during the 1980s helped, too. “When people ask me if I went to film school, I tell them, ‘No, I went to films,'” he once remarked. “When you have tunnel vision, when you have very limited interests, you know, you better pick up a lot. I wasn’t interested in school. I wasn’t interested in sports. I was only interested in movies.”

The great thing about filmmaking is... you can do it NOW. Create short films on your own NOW. Learn, experiment, do it with friends. Submit your short films to youth film festivals such as NFFTY and All American High School Film Festival (if you're in HS). Attending one of these festivals will give you amazing insight into what the youth of the world are doing right NOW without a film degree. You can also watch youth films on their websites for inspiration.

Hi Trayguil,
As being explained, college education isn't necessary, not at all. Just explore on the social media who could be producing short films for experience and friends. I'd suggest downloading Studio 32 for insights. Best wishes, Mark
