I agree with Keith, mental preparation is very important, performing tasks that call on your senses and observation will keep you mentally sharp. Do not become complacent. Eating properly, Physical fitness , walking, short runs, light lifting is beneficial because some sites require a good amount of walking and stairclimbing in various weather conditions. Above all don't be a hero, observe and report. Call the police with description and the perpetrators direction of travel. Hope this helps you in your future endeavors.

Usually you have to be able to touch your toes (flexibility) and be able to work on your feet for extended periods of time. Its different in each state. In Illinois there's a P.O.W.E.R. that has standardized performance bench marks for law enforcement.. These change with each age group. Basically you have to run 1.5 miles in a certain time, bench press a percentage of your total body weight, do so many situps in a minute, and be able to keep straight knees while seated and reach a certain distance past your toes. This varies depending not only on age, but also by men and women's different standards. Its a good rule of thumb that if you can attain this standard of fitness, you will be good to go for a security job. Good luck kiddo!

The security profession can be boring and lonely. It depends on what type of security you enter. My area of expertise is in hotel security. There was always something different happening day after day.

Physical fitness is important, but mental fitness is as if not more important. The ability to see something that is out of the norm while doing patrols, know how to process what you have seen and then what to do with that information. Securities job it to observe and report, physical detention should be left to law enforcement if at all possible. You will advance much further in your career if you focus on mental toughness.
