As with many vocations, a formal education in the science is a tremendous help. But mostly, dog breeders are informally taught or self-taught, and responsible dog breeders use the vast array of available information from others, from books, especially the internet. Another thing responsible dog breeding requires is hard work. We found that the best and most wonderful dogs are treated with a lot of love and attention from the time they are newborn puppies. Dogs are human-bonded creatures, and they deserve a lot of love and will return it a hundredfold.

Being a dog breeder is less about formal education and more about gaining valuable experience and learnings from others who have already done it. Having the proper kennel permits and certifications is also important to keep you compliant and bring you credibility as a business, but the best way to learn is to talk to other breeders, attend dog shows, perform your own research online, etc and then have your first litter to get hands on experience. It's a great field to be an apprentice in first to learn valuable tips and tricks of the trade. Good luck! Who doesn't love puppies? : )
