To add to what's above, you need to select something your passionate about to carry you through school and into a career. I think you'll find a lot of people who start one thing and switch (which is fine) and graduate with one degree and work in another area. I had related degrees (Journalism and Communications) and I ended up in a marketing job on a few years after I graduated college and from there I worked my way into a very technical marketing position doing digital marketing and even some programming for websites and emails. You'll find your way...if marketing excites you, then by all means give it a go. If you love the creative business talk, you'll thrive. I would worry less about the numbers and what others are doing and more about what will make you happy and feel fulfilled at the end of the day! You'll do great. Best of luck!!

Marketing is great! For me, I actually got my bachelor's degree in engineering and then much later pursued an MBA with a focus on marketing. I was always more of a marketing type vs an engineer but the two actually go well together in many companies and offer a unique distinction among the many that do have a marketing degree. Today, I lead product management for my business unit and I love the marketing side of that.

There are so many different types of jobs you can do with a marketing degree! Anything from product development, to strategy, to copywriting, to digital marketing or social media.
The key for any marketing major is to gain valuable experience with real businesses, even as an unpaid intern or freelancer. Whether a startup or a huge corporation, valuable experience learning about the business, various industries, new forms of media, etc will make you a more well rounded and better marketer. There are a lot of marketing majors out there, so setting yourself apart with unique experiences, hard skills like graphic design or video editing, and or establishing a personal brand and voice for yourself with your social media accounts or initial portfolio can really give you a leg up when interviewing.
Getting an MBA as a marketing major can also help you boost your career, especially in more traditional brand marketing/product management type roles. As a former marketing major, I can tell you that I never stop learning and having fun with my various types of marketing and strategy roles I've had!
