Joining the airforce is also a great first step to becoming a pilot in the US. You can get a college degree and learn how to fly at the airforce academy. Another good track is to learn how to be a pilot on the side through a trade program and get a degree in business management or engineering so that you have a well rounded background and will stand out from other candidates when interviewing to work for a major commercial airline.

You should consider a major in any STEM (Science Technlogy Engineering or Math). Many pilots are trained in the military services most prefer technical majors for pilots. If your really interested in the workings of the aircraft and flight you might consider aeronautical engineering or other flight sciences.
