Thank you comment icon Great comments from Brandon above. Another angle you could think about is the target Industry or market segment you are talking to/writing for. From an industry perspective (eg. Financial Services vs. Manufacturing) the same solution or service can solve different problems these potential customers are facing. Speaking their Industry language and being more specific on their needs and how you could help them - instead of drafting a generic message that will "fits all industries" - will resonate better and best position your brand vs. other competitors. This goes into becoming a subject matter expert who know how to write properly for the target audience. HTH! R. Riccardo Sponza

Colin’s Answer

Copywriting is the act of writing with the intention of selling a product or service. The job of a copywriter is to increase brand awareness or explain the benefits of a business with the goal of persuading readers to take action.

Copywriters can write emails, landing pages, web pages, social media posts, ad copy, white papers, blogs, and more. Every business needs a way to explain its benefits to potential customers so they will hire talented copywriters to help articulate those benefits across different channels.

Although there is some overlap, there is a difference between copywriting and content writing. The primary difference is in the end goal of the writing. Content is created to educate or entertain an audience, whereas copy is meant to sell or persuade. Content is also typically meant to be longer, whereas copy tends to be short and to the point.

There are a variety of different types of copywriters including SEO copywriters, UX writers, marketing copywriters, PR copywriters, direct response copywriters, and brand copywriters. Many copywriters will also specialize in a particular niche or industry where they have the most insight or experience. Hope that helps!

Sukhminder’s Answer

Day-to-day, copywriters are tasked with writing clear and concise copy for ads, marketing materials, and websites, for virtually any audience and any industry.

What real, working copywriters will tell you is that, yes, copywriting is very hard to break into—if you don't have any training or experience. Every time someone who has no training or experience applies for a job, they're up against other people who do have them.

Copywriting, or more precisely, well-written copywriting, is essential because it drives profitability, earns a Return On Investment (ROI) and achieves your business' goals by convincing your target customer that your product offering will solve their need and offer them value.

Brandon’s Answer

Copywriting is basically writing that is focused on marketing and pursuading a person to purchase or use a product. Another way to look at it, is that it is basically advertising for a company or product.

In Copywriting however, there are many different types that aim to do slightly different things. An example is SEO Copywriting, which is trying to raise the websites Search Engine rating so that more people will see the website. Another example is of the public relation copywriting, or PR copywriting, that focuses on promoting the companies relationship with its customer base.

There are a lot of different types of copywriting, you just have to decide which one is the best for you. Hope this helps!

Mary’s Answer

Great question. The wonderful thing about copywriting as a field is that it is so wide and expansive. Some people think of copywriting as only "Marketing" copywriting--like Mad Men style ad writing. But it is so much more. Copywriting is sometimes referred to as "UX Writing" or user experience writing. That often means it is writing for websites, or applications, to help make the user experience as best as it can be. Copywriting can also be for things like user manuals for products, which might also be called technical writing. Basically, it boils down to anything that has words out in the world can be copywriting. Signs! Brochures! Error messages! Websites! Applications! Forms! Welcome messages! The opportunities are endless. Which means the job possibilities are very good, too. Almost every field has a need for a copywriter--aka, someone who knows how to write well and understands the power of words. There is no degree in "copywriting." So as long as you have experience writing and a background in English, or Journalism, or Communications or similar, you can fit in well in a career of copywriting. Good luck!
