This is a tough dilemma for many folks starting on. I see two options:
1) Get any job you can find and start taking classes @ https://www.epcc.edu/Academics/AdvancedTechnologyCenter/welding-technology the EP Community College. Once you have a bit of experience then apply for welding jobs. There are trade schools as well, but they may cost more but may not get you a job any faster.
2) Call every welder in the EP area and see if they have any jobs. You may have to start out cleaning or just be a gofer. Then ask the welders there to help you practice and get experience. https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Jobs/Welding-Apprenticeship/-in-El-Paso,TX?layout=card list some apprentice jobs that may help you get into the right shop. http://www.ironworkers263.org/apprenticeship.html this Union site may also have info on how to get an apprenticeship.

That's a pretty good plan for supporting your college education. The fields like welding can offer great opportunities. Also look for a company that might have a tuition reimbursement program. That can also offset the cost of college.
Also you can start at a community college to take care of the basics ( English, Math, etc.)
Good luck in whatever you decide.
