Do you have tips for me in studying Information Systems?
I decided to go with Information Systems but what should I start first? Take a course about digital marketing? do coding python? What should be the first step in diving into IS? I want to be more on the business side rather than the tech side. #business #tech #informationsystems #IS #step

1) Identify what you are trying to accomplish:
- Do you want to be a great programmer or a project manager? Would you study business analytics? Start by identifying which aspect of the IT industry you want to focus on.
2) Ensure you develop excellent communication skills:
- People skills is such an important skillset to portray in our world today. Hiring managers are looking for people who can work effectively with others. You need to focus on listening, clarifying, and learning to develop conflict- resolution strategies.
3) Research Skills:
- Being able to perform research to keep up with industry trends, technology changes, and issues is a vital skill to have in the IT workplace. You may find yourself spending a majority of your time researching problems you have run into and having good research skills ensures you can work efficiently.
4) Never STOP Learning:
- A career in IT is a lifelong commitment as you will quickly discover when you begin your carrer that you will never know everything. There is so much to learn, with the revolving industry. You never know when you are going to be asked about a new developing technology, its better to at least have some exposure and be familiar with a new topic when asked.

All the advice above is good and sound. Outline what you really want to do and try to adapt your school curriculum to that. Make sure you lean on counselors for guidance and resources, sometimes it is just good to network and connect with others in the field to understand their paths. People love to talk about their jobs and the (sometimes unusual) ways they landed in their field of choice! If you want more emphasis (if you are a college student) on business, major in Business and minor in CIS/CIT if you think you can do it.
Good Luck -

The responses above are excellent! Drawing from my own experience studying Information Systems in University, I explored a variety of data-centric languages including Python, SQL, Tableau, R, JavaScript, and SPSS, among others. The aim in higher education wasn't to become proficient in all these tools but rather to identify the one that resonated most with me and to begin my journey there. The career opportunities in Information Systems are vast and diverse, allowing you to forge a path that aligns with your interests and skills. If you enjoy marketing as well, you can get certifications for it! I personally did marketing on the side because I personally enjoy it but didn't want to spend a couple grand on another degree in Marketing, so I got the Google Digital Marketing Certificate (it's free by the way under the Google Digital Garage website).
Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in your educational/career journey!

You can start with what you have passion for. But you need to understand that the two things you mentioned are very different (digital marketing and coding python). As long as just finishing the required points for academics, you can proceed either way but for the career choice, you will have to decide what you are more interested. Sometime it is good idea to do some research about which filed to go. So easiest way is you identify what you want to do, is it a career decision or just to pass a course. Then based on that set your work priority. You automatically reach to right decision.
