Firstly, you may need to complete the relevant courses in the college. You would acquire the knowledge and skills you need for working.
On the other hand, you can explore any explore any intern opportunities in the relevant industry, it can give you the exposure on how it looks in the real time, learn some experience and skills in addition to what you can learn in the college and establish the network, etc.
Having said that, after you graduate from the college and start working, you also keep attending the relevant courses, keep an eye on the industry development from time to time, etc. The world and technology change rapidly every day. We need to keep learning to ensure our knowledge and skills are up to date. Also, you can keep collaboration with other colleagues and people working in the industry from time to time. This can help you to find out the market status.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

After high school i joined the US Air Force. I wasn't sure about technology at that time but that's the job skill that was available to me at the time so i grabbed the opportunity. Initially it was tough and challenging because the tech school courses were fast paced. However, i learned to enjoy Information Technology because i saw how it manifested other parts of my life. Long story short...the military can provide a wide range of career paths depending on which branch you join. While in the military, i took several college courses as i worked toward my degree in IT. After i left the military i was fortunate to find a job in my career field. I went to school at night to finish my IT degree. So the military is a great path to take in finding your career path while at the same time you can go to school to improve your skills and work toward your degree...also if you're blessed like i was, i was able to see other parts of the country/world at the same time.

When I left university, I made a conscious choice to get into the technology field by taking any roles regardless how "big" or "small" it is that was related to the tech I was interested in. It allowed me to understand the business, the bits and bobs that I enjoyed and disliked, and appreciate the other roles within the organisation.
Overtime, naturally I realised was that my initial choice of career wasn't necessarily what I enjoyed doing most.
One thing to note as well is this. As you transition through life, your preference for what you want to pursue also changes and it doesnt always mean what was done in the past was for naught. Everything you've done previously enriches your next path.

I found that it was very helpful in my career path to have spoken to people that are doing the jobs that I found interesting. Most of the time, a simple question among your immediate circle of friends (or among circle of your friends/family's friends) about your interest to speak to someone in a certain field, can potentially raise a few names. Or, there may be alumni from your school, or people known to your teachers/professors, that may be able to help.
Even after you start working, it is still good to keep in touch with different people in related or different fields, keep abreast of developments and let these conversations inspire new ideas in you or help you understand current careers from a different perspective.
Make time for these wise conversations, they are always helpful.

Finding a great mentor ! I just so happen to end up with great mentors that encouraged me and gave me great resources. So I say reach out to someone or multiple people in the field you want to go into and ask them questions. Keep and maintain those relationships.
