Great questions to ask!! Do your homework on the role/s you are applying for and tailor your resume to each job. It takes some good reflection on what are your skills and strengths prior to writing a resume and applying for a job. I would also have someone read your resume and check for errors and/or opportunities as we all tend to under sell ourselves. Review your resume prior to submission and keep a record of the roles you have applied for so you are ready for the call or email when it comes. Thank you for asking this question!!

Great question, Jonathan!

First, I must say that there is no such thing as a perfect resume. To clarify, a perfect resume is something you can submit to all openings. Think of a resume as an extension of yourself. When going out to specific events, you want to dress for the occasion, which you'll want to do for your resume. The resume you submit to a university should not be the same as that you submit to a job application. So depending on how much experience you have, you'll want to adjust your resume accordingly. With that said, here are some basics to keep in mind when "dressing up" your resume for the occasion.

Contact information, Objective or summary statement, Relevant Skills, Professional Experience, Education, Additional Information(i.e., volunteer work and special interests**optional**)

I've added a link from Indeed that touches on these areas, along with a resume builder site to help you construct your resume. Best of luck on your career journey!

Review, review, review. Aside from going over your own resume multiple times for any grammatical errors, make sure to have multiple people review your resume. A career advisor can really help get your resume ready for any job or scholarship applications. You might also need to tailor your resume for certain jobs or scholarships. For example, if you're applying to an engineering internship, you will want to make sure your resume highlights anything related to the internship requirements - engineering degree, any related engineering organizations/clubs, projects, etc.

As an employee who looks as many resumes, make sure to keep it to one page. This is just to draw the attention for you to get the interview and then in the interview is where you need to shine! Through the questions they ask is when you give detailed answers of your experience. Also make sure in your resume it doesnt show that you jump from job to job.

Having a mock interview could be very helpful. Also do a research about the employer and try to highlight your skills that are relevant for the position you are applying for. Good luck!
