What is the employment rate for a dental hygienist?

#dental #dentist #dental-hygienist

Thank you comment icon https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/dental-hygienists.htm predicts that dental hygienist job growth will be better than average and https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes291292.htm has salary data. According to https://www.zippia.com/dental-hygienist-jobs/demographics/ the unemployment rate is tiny so it should be easy to find a job. However, this may vary a lot based on the state and city. A shortage of dental hygienists has been consistently reported in US dental professional news since COVID but there’s also been a shortage of dental assistants. I don’t know how training programs for dental assistants and dental hygienists were impacted. Maybe they are not filling classes with as many students or maybe dental hygienists left the US workforce during COVID and haven’t returned.
It’s hard to know what the trends will be in the US once society adjusts “post COVID “. These are also questions to ask an admissions representative at the schools you select.

Dental hygienist and assistants are very hard to find right now due to Covid. However, because of that, there are more career options. With that being said, you can also ask for reasonable pay because we are in such high demand. I say reasonable because asking for $50-60 an hour is a bit of a stretch but back then hygienist made $25-35 an hour, whereas they are now making between $40-50 an hour. Most can also choose their own hours and days to work which is really nice. So that’s something to think about. It’s demanding and flexible all in the same. Hygiene school is rough but if you love educating patients and taking care of them with a rewarding field, this is it.
