+1 all of Brooke’s answers from my perspective as a real estate investor as well.
To add a little more practical detail, the first 6-18 months of being an agent, you will have to hustle and find ways to build up consistent business (meeting lots of people, doorknocking or cold calling if you don’t have marketing budget).
If you are working under a brokerage that is very proactive about giving you guidance, the faster you will learn.
Real estate has incredibly high earning potential for a relatively low amount of formal schooling. Especially once you tap into the investment side or eventually start your own brokerage.
Shadow 5 real estate agents in your area to get a feel for the day to day to see if you like the lifestyle and work.

While not an agent myself, I am a real estate investor and work with many agents. Some positives include:
- Flexible work schedule
- Entrepreneurial
- Earnings directly associated with your efforts (high earning potential)
- No college degree required (cost of Real Estate training very reasonable)
- Lots of career growth potential (can become a broker, get into investing, etc.)
- Grow a large network of people
