This is not a 'must' but go to the college can certainly help you to run the business when your business grows.
I am not sure you have decided what industry you start your business. I would recommend that you choose the relevant subjects in the college. That can help you to acquire the knowledge and skills on the industry. On the other hand, you can explore any intern opportunities to work in the industry. This can help you to understand the operation model and establish network in the industry.
Also, i recommend you to take the MBA course upon your completion of your undergraduate degree and work a few years in the industry. This is more important when your business grows. In MBA course, you can learn business management skills, e.g. accounting, finance, business strategy development, marketing, etc.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Earning a degree to start your own business is not a necessity but it is highly recommended as it is a challenging thing to do. Degrees are not just a piece of paper, but throughout your years in it you are taught to think critically about your choices and consider scenarios before making a decision. Of course you can learn those skills on your own as there are many online courses available for free or a small fee, but college is also an environment that helps you build the mindset necessary to run a business as well as it enables the exchange of ideas with peers and professionals in the field. The most valuable piece of college is the network you build throughout your years in it.
The know how is important, but building connections is a gamechanger.
Best of luck!
Research universities you might be interested in as well as average costs to attend
Make sure the university's business program is tailored to help achieve your goals
Ask about the graduate rates of earning a full time job by degree completion - this is an indicator that the program is desirable

Hi Landon,
A college degree is not required. Some businesses classes would be advisable since there are taxes and other laws that may play into your business that you want to be well versed in. However, that would not always rise to the level of needing a business degree. Your challenge will be to stay up-to-date on areas that impact your business such as state, federal, and tax laws, or hire someone to help you with them.
I would look into articles like this one which talk about how successful entrepreneurs view the need for a college degree to own a business: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/19/survey-shows-majority-of-business-owners-lack-college-degree.html
When I reviewed several articles for this post, I did see a common theme that I agree with in my own life. If you can get a college degree, get it. There is a competitive advantage in getting a college degree no matter who you work for. I took 17 years to get my college degree, which is not a plan that I would recommend but I hope shows you a few things. You can work and be successful without a degree. I did work and find success. However, I also learned some knowledge the hard way, some stuff that I would have been taught in a degree program. I also got better jobs and more interviews after having a degree even though I had experience in my chosen field. My challenge was paying for college and finding the time for it. I would recommend that you take classes whenever possible, if you can afford it (time and money).
