Hi Diana!
That's great that you're interested in teaching middle school math! Education requirements tend to vary by state, and many colleges/universities have different ways of structuring their programs. For example, at the university that I attended, students who wish to become teachers are considered dual majors. They major in both education and the subject matter that they want to teach. However, at the University of Delaware, students who major in Education choose a concentration within which to focus, such as middle school math. Therefore, the answer to your question may vary depending upon the state that you're in and the university you decide to attend. I would recommend doing some research on the universities you are looking into in order to get more information on the structure of their education programs.
I hope this helps! Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Madeline

I would recommend that you major in mathematics and then either double major or minor in psychology or education (depending on the school you go to). It would be great for you to have a strong foundation in mathematics to be an excellent middle school teacher. Also, if you end up changing your mind about teaching, you have a degree that is more versatile than an education degree. I hope this helps!
